MENTOR'S DECLARATION

The whole world has been living in new conditions of a pandemic for a little over a year now. On the one hand, a year is not the period when you can radically change the material environment. On the other hand, we definitely faced the need to actively master new models of behavior and communication and revise the very scenarios of our existence in the city and interaction with its environment. The workspace format became one of the most important issues. Workplace – what should it be today to give an opportunity to a person to work in a healthy environment as much as possible in every sense, to be effective and to feel satisfaction from what he is doing?

I don't use the word "office" on purpose, because I don't want to limit the participants of the Third Russian Youth Architecture Biennale in their search. On the contrary, I am personally convinced that the "workspace of the future" means not only an office – we are rather talking about various combinations of working, residential and public spaces, and I am very interested in what arguments the contestants will give in favor of certain combinations of functions.

I see the work on environmental friendliness, energy efficiency and, ultimately, the durability of the designed complex as an equally important part of the creative search for the finalists. The workspace should not only be user-friendly and flexible in terms of long-term use, but also demonstrate fundamentally new approaches to working with materials and engineering solutions.

Restarting the office center format is what the post-pandemic world urgently needs today, and who, if not the youth, should offer ideas that can change the common view of things, buildings and spaces.
